OUR PRIORITIES

We have identified many issues that need addressing:

  • The loss of family homes to houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) – there is often a lot of turnover with occupants of HMOs and they have less commitment to the area
  • Parking, particularly in Semilong, can be difficult at times, leading to double-parking which means emergency vehicles cannot have access
  • Anti-social behaviour can sometimes be a concern across the area
  • The development of the old University site in St George’s Avenue into 170 homes could cause traffic management issues
  • A huge increase in the number of students in our area – up to 4,000 when the schools are all at full capacity means they need safe routes to school
  • Increased traffic on the Barrack Road and on all roads in the area puts pressure on crossing points and parking (see above)

OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENTS

And we have identified opportunities for improvements across the neighbourhood:

  • Re-developing playgrounds
  • Improving cleanliness of streets
  • Enhancing facilities on the Racecourse
  • Protecting the wildlife area in Trinity
  • Review, increase and enhance community facilities
  • Improve facilities for sports and recreation
  • Improving traffic management
  • Introducing safer cycling and walking routes, particularly to and from the schools
  • Developing a ‘Design Guide’ which allows us to influence future developments
